Here you are! You successfully landed and found your way to your accommodation thanks to our amazing first guide on how to get from the airport to the hotel! It is now time to take a walk around and to enjoy yourself in one of the great restaurants and bars of the city! Because we are so nice, we are back with another guide giving you all the French vocabulary you need to enjoy your nights out!

To book and go to a restaurant / bar

Finally, you’ve arrived at your vacation spot! Unfortunately, you forgot to search for “the place to be” tonight and you are probably going to need to ask for advice!

  • Excuse me, do you know where I can find a good restaurant / bar around here?

If you want to book a table :

  • Good evening, I would like to book a table for four this evening around 8:30 PM.

When you get to the restaurant:

  • We have booked a table in the name of …
  • Do you have any table available?
  • Avez-vous une table de libre ?

Now that you are comfortably sitting down in your dream spot, you’re ready to place your order.

  • Excuse me, is it possible to order, please?
  • Excusez-moi, est-il possible de commander s’il vous plaît ?

To order in French

Time to get some food, and you’re starting to be in desperate need of a larger vocabulary!

  • Can we see the (drinks) menu / the wine list?
  • I would like a glass of … a bottle of… a cup of….

  • I’d like to have ….
  • J’aimerais prendre du / de …

  • … with rice / pasta / potatoes / vegetables.

In case, there is a mistake:

  • This is not what I ordered…
  • Ce n’est pas ce que j’ai commandé…

To ask for the bill

You’ve had a lovely evening, but all good things come to an end and it is time for the not so nice part: the bill.

  • Could we have the bill, please?
  • Pourrions-nous avoir l’addition, s’il vous plaît ?
  • Can I pay by card?
  • Puis-je payer par carte ?
  • Can we pay separately?
  • Peut-on payer séparément ?

There you go! You are ready for a good time at the restaurant ! We do hope you will enjoy your vacations and most of all, bon appétit !
